Tuncurry (meaning plenty of fish) is a great place for fishing either from a boat or from the shore, beach or rocks. From annual mullet runs to flathead or giant jew fish, you are sure to catch something in the crystal clear water. If you want some help or guidance there are several fishing tours and charters in the area. If you are looking for something more active than fishing, then try kayaking, paddle boarding & water bikes in the lake (all can be hired for a small fee from the jetties in Forster) or try your hand at surfing on 9-mile beach or one of the many surf beaches in the area.
June to November is whale watching season with some of the best whale watching in Australia. Dolphins always follow the boats and with drones and a huge amount of local expertise you are almost guaranteed to get up close with a whale (an unforgettable experience).
If you don’t want to go out on a boat just take a morning walk along the Tuncurry breakwater where you can see dolphins swimming only meters away while you enjoy a coffee from one of the sea-side cafes.
For a change of pace, there is also golf, paintball, bushwalking, local markets, lookouts, shopping and bicycling all to be found in the area. And of course, you shouldn’t miss the BEST OYSTERS in Australia, grown right here in Wallis Lake. There really is nothing better than fresh oysters brought straight to your table from the water.
